From the
earliest days, man has had a partnership
with the domestic dog, and the job of
guarding has been especially important.
Some dogs became the sentinels of the
pastures, moving with the flocks,
protecting them from predators and
thieves. These breeds of dogs
developed the ability to work
independent of man, while still being
man's helpmate.
The
livestock guardian dog is not a herder,
but rather a guardian and protector.
Living with the livestock, they form
strong bonds with the flock, yet even
being left alone in the pasture, are
able to form strong social bonds with
their human counterpart.
There are
over 30 breeds of livestock guardian dogs
around the world, and we have set upon
the quest to work with as many of the
different breeds as possible. Some of
the breeds are now extinct, and others
have been close to extinction, but have
been brought back through the dilegent
dedication of breeders.
